Early Scion Thread Swap

That's interesting keiffer though not immune is supposed to be pretty resistant
It's killing me. These are 8-10 year old trees and have had heavy fruit before. Each summer I have to prune it out. I'm going to try and graft a different variety or start over. The funny thing is, the $5 pears I planted from Big Lots near these are doing fine. Here are some pics of my attempt to prune the blight out of them. I've sprayed the clippers with a mix of Clorox and or alcohol and it still comes back every year. I need to just plant a bunch of persimmon trees and move on.

Man that is crazy makes me think of Bartlett pears they apparently fold pretty quick. Hate you've that kind of trouble with her keiffer. Maybe try some trees from the wildlife group. Another thing you can try is spraying with a mix of dormant oil and copper prior to bid break the copper is supposed to kill any blight left on the surface of the tree after you have pruned it all out.

I'm looking for some persimmon scions, early and late. Have a number of persimmons around, but none are producing as of yet. Would like to speed up the process. Any help would be appreciated.

How old are your persimmon trees? I can get you some scions but you still need a mature root system.

My kieffer pears have a serious blight problem. I'm looking to cut them back and start over with a better blight resistant variety. If anyone needs some yates or Arkansas blk scion wood I can trade or pay for some pear scion wood.
I wonder if those Kieffers were mislabeled? I have orient and Moonglow available on pears. Also have Kieffer but guessing you don't want the Kieffer:eek:

Doc,
You are correct! No more Kieffer. It may be as simple as where I planted them. It is a low spot, so maybe that is making it worse. Or possibly from another wild pear on the property that gets blight. I have one that is 100 yards away. Who knows. Anyway, I would be interested in some Orient if you have some pinky size scion wood. I'm planning on bark grafting into my Kieffers. Also may walk around and top some bradford pear also. I have a few persimmon trees that drop late September- early Nov and some that hold later into Dec. I will check this weekend for some wood and let you know.
Thanks!

Looking for some persimmon scions that produce large fruit like Fuyu or something similar. Would like to try and convert some of my native trees over to producing larger fruit.

Mine are planted on upland soil and used to fruit heavily. No wild pears around either. Doesn't affect my nearby apple trees.

Anyone have hickory pecan or hican scions? Maybe butternut as well?
Check with Blitz. They gave me some hican nuts one year. They were really good. Not sure if the trees are their's or not, but send them a PM and ask.

Great! Not sure the age, but they range anywhere from 1.5-2.5 inches in diameter. This will be my first shot at grafting, so I'm guessing those will work?

Might try killing those bradford pears. They can be blight carriers. I kill them every winter it seems.

Hey guys, little blue 40 sits in a frost pocket and i am looking for late bloomers like Terry Winter and Ralls Janet apples. I can buy the scions on the web, but wanted to check here first. Any other late bloomers? I have King David.
