I've had more trouble with Walmart Dunstan's growing well then I have the ones I've grown from seed. Deff try to water them the first 2-3 years until they get established.
I have planted 6 thus far (Chestnut Hill Nursery trees) - 3 last year and 3 the year before. I have had 1 die (planting issue on my part). I have had the "catkins" form, but no "burs" yet. I purchased mine as 3 gallon trees thru a local retailer. I water during the summer as needed - the first year in the ground only. Other than that I cage like I go a fruit tree and they have done just fine in my sandy/course loam upland soils. Oldest one are nearly 6 feet tall now. Below is a picture of my first planted trees from this spring. I have had good luck with them thus far, but no nuts yet.
Over the past 3 years, I've planted 25 and only had one die. I used tubes and mats and added moisture mizer when planting. The earlier planted ones are almost all producing burs now. Very satisfied so far.

I could google it....but I trust the people on here way more than the jokers that come up with random stuff on the internet.
But, I'll go ahead and google it.
