Did a little work on Blizzard Ridge this past weekend

A big thanks to Don and Deen for all of the help this weekend. We accomplished getting 3 ridge tops hinge cut totaling I am guessing around 10 acres of buck motels built. We also walked several other farms and got land management plans put together for those farms as well. Picked up a few sheds along the way and found a couple dead heads the neighbors must have hit. A couple more weekends of hinge cutting on other farms and then the mowing will have to start to get a jump on our food plots.

We had beautiful working weather here in East Central Illinois. I hope all of you had a productive weekend as well. This time of year is a close second to hunting season for me. Happy management season to you all.

We have a ton of deer still holding. We walked 25 miles or so this weekend. I know yesterday about midday my buddies fitbit said we were at 10 miles. We walked Friday, Saturday, Sunday and yesterday and just found a few. The hinge cutting went fairly quickly we had all of it done by noon on Saturday. Two saws running non stop except for to fuel a couple times knocks some trees down in a hurry.

Basically if it wasn't oak, walnut or a bigger timber tree we hinged it. Hopefully the deer appreciate it because my poor old back is sore today.

That sounds great! 10 acres is a lot of hinging. One of the challenges with a lot of our habitat work is just about when we get in shape doing a particular job using particular muscles the task is done or time runs out. And then its on to the next task which of course uses different muscles and/or skills and the getting in shape process starts over.

That is for sure. In my younger days I cut pipeline right-of-way. I ran a chainsaw 10 hours a day with the only break being to fuel it back up and grab a drink and sandwich at lunch. My mind tells me I can still do that type of work but my body says oh hell no.
