Has anyone tried hanging a cattle duster by a feeder to help with ticks.I think it would work they just have to brush up against it.My ticks are so bad that I have seen where it causes damage to their ears

I've considered it, but always stopped short of doing it. Can't imagine that a pile of corn wouldn't get them to brush up under a rub or a curtain.

I see the same on our place. Sometimes I see deer eating ticks off each other.

Burning your property will seriously decrease the number of ticks. Tick numbers in high enough levels will blind and even kill fawns outright from what I have read.

Another side effect of Eastern Red Cedar over taking the landscape is that they have actually documented increased numbers of ticks in areas with cedars as the cedars provide a microclimate more favorable to tick survival.

We got some good burns last yr. Afraid to burn now because we have a lot of grass. A whole lot of grass!

I've read the same about ticks and cedars. Unfortunately with more and more ground being switched from cattle pasture to hunting pasture cedars are becoming more and more prevalent.

My ground has more ticks than anywhere I have ever seen.I can't burn alot of it but by the time the grass turns green I bet theres ticks there.I did buy some guineas but the guy that was going to raise them from chicks wouldn't give them to me when he found out I was letting them run wild.
They say turkeys eat more ticks than possums so thats why you should kill possums.My buddys kid me that I'm some kind of tick whisperer.Heck I got a tick in the cemetery by where the world trade center stood in NYC when we did a tour.

Yeah, I’ve thought about that too. It could work if they actually rub against it. Just make sure it’s hung at the right height and is sturdy—they can be rough! Ticks can really mess up their ears, so anything that helps is worth a shot.

I saw a Grant Woods video a few year back where he checked the tick population on a property before and after a burn, his tick population was considerably higher after the burn.

They say you can take a white sheet and lay out and but dry ice on it and it will attract the ticks,Alot of them get on you by "tenting" is whats its called when they fall on you because of the carbon dioxide

Might have to see if I can find that one. Grant is usually pretty solid on his info. However, all the research projects/papers I know of point to the opposite of that. There is no reason for tick populations to be higher. Besides the ticks killed in the fire. Ticks need a moist shady environment in which to live long term, they desiccate quite easily.

I think I remember something about that burned area drawing more critters (vectors) post burn than the surrounding area due to desirable forage and it leading to an overall increase some time later. Not necessarily immediately post burn, but a little later. Been several years since I read that and can’t remember where. And to confuse it even more, I don’t think what I read was Grant Woods unless they were quoting him.
