I hate reading your thread mid day. Makes me so dang hungry. Awesome harvest but I need seedless maters if you don't mind thanks to health issue. And sign me up for the web site once its up and going. Cover pic is perfect. Funny you mention the heirlooms. Youtube Anthony Bourdains recent show in WV and his talk with the locals of various seeds from past generations that have been saved and are now being propagated thanks to the interest in healthy foods. He had everything from corn to tomato varieties shown him. Fun read as usual.

There's just something special about Planting Time!
Just a lot of good reasons to enjoy this time of the year, and planting time (1) I still enjoy hanging out on a tractor (2) always amazing to watch those little seed take hold in some rich soil and take off (3) two grandsons are excited about approaching hunting season (4) I limed all the fields heavily in February so anxious to see some results.

The last run over the fields is lightly with the chisel plow which creates some neat furrows for seed and fertilizer.

My neighbor has a new John Deere and wanted to help and plant his plots at the same time. I was happy to operate the new 70 HP Deere. Made the job go much faster and we could use my little tractor to just ride over fhe fields and pack the seed

These guys were hoping we would leave a few seed on top of the ground, but the weather probably buried it well

About two weeks earlier we had planted some turnips and radishes. They got timely rains as well. September is always hit or miss on wet or dry. Things have worked out well so far this year.
