Any Sanctuary Builders / Developers

It was an absolute honor to be a small part of a buck harvest like that I’ve never seen a buck that old and probably never will but the fact that that buck chose our sanctuary to take salvage in is another honor and tribute to what we are doing

Kip Adams says "Most hunters consider a 5½-year-old buck to be really old. I agree with them, as only a small percentage of bucks live that long in the wild" The record is 22 years old, so your spike was very close to a record book deer, very interesting indeed. I'd love to see the certificate from this buck, it would be very impressive, do you happen to have that?

I can reach to the harvester as I know he got a lot of attention from Buck Masters and was on rhe Jackie Bushman Show in a segment with Shotgun Red but he was eventually kicked out of the club and no haven’t seen him or his Dad in a few years

I have held my council until now, but I can’t let this pass. Being on the Jackie Bushman show ain’t no damn recommendation ! And for the record, I don’t think you ever hung one set 45’ up a tree, much less all of them. Now, self report yourself and don’t lie about it, you may get kicked out of the club !

Swat be honest you sit in a green field or a 12’ ladder stand most hunts am I right? Be honest here

I don't have ladder stands. I do hunt from some boxes on green fields. I also hunt in the timber. Georgie boy and I are still waiting on your trophy pics, doubt that's going to happen....

I doubt you know a trophy, seeing you don't know what a sanctuary is.

Carry on.....

Dry crick,

45’ is the standard height and proven not to get winded and I don’t care if you believe it or not but I’d say try it and see if you go undetected and then report back.

Swat, we know what sanctuaries are that’s why we hunt them you don’t seem to grasp the whole concept and has anyone from your club ever appeared on the Jackie Bushman Show? If anyone wants to see if what I’m saying is legit I invite you to come to Alabama and see, you just need to pass our bow test and I seriously doubt anyone could

Well that’s where we differ my friend because we are sanctuary loving people and want to share our experiences and trials and tribulations. We do understand what we do is hard to grasp for some folks even unthinkable but you really need to understand the extreme lengths we undertake. We typically only hunt the sanct two maybe three sits a season conditions have to be perfect. Like I said it’s definitely not for everyone but it’s challenging and fun for us and we just know what works for us! Not intended to be comical and the fact that you think it would be tells me you don’t grasp what we do and that’s perfectly ok everyone should hunt how they want. And it doesn’t hurt that we are surrounded with clubs who dog hunt and while that makes for good sanctuary opportunities on our land we have to deal with their dogs when they cross property lines to protect our work

It's been a good discussion on sanctuaries, comedy or not, because it got me thinking very seriously about what our own habitat vs hunting priorities are, how we treat a deer sanctuary, and to realize that a sanctuary should always be non-negotiable.
I was forced to admit to myself that there's been hunting events where we got stuck in a downward spiral with our sanctuary quality, where we sacrificed sanctuary quality to try to better our shorterm hunting, making our longterm hunting worse.

I thought that we had this all figured out, sanctuary, transition zone, and kill plot.

I'm a mennonite. Only went to one room amish school till 8th grade. Don't know what "transition zone" means 🤣
Alabama home of the giants. Don't they have some ridiculous buck a day limit or something? Yea, I'm guessing that promotes a great age structure.
A buck a day sounds even worse than living in NY where you can't own any guns but they tax you double to send money to NYC where all the crooks have guns. Glad PA is still a 1 buck a year state.

Three buck limit and a doe a day season runs from oct thru February
Yep, management at its finest, kinda like Texas. Have to keep those residents happy ! Being from Texas, I get to criticize the TPWD all I want to. Some counties have a three buck limit, some don’t. I’m in the don’t zones, but we have this ridiculous “15” or better inside spread” for one buck, but then they let you kill a spike for your other buck. The 15” rule is fine, but why kill spikes unless they are mature (or three years old) spikes. I think in 50 years of deer hunting I have seen three of those. Y’all kick my soapbox out from under me before I really get wound up !😝

SorryBill, where were we ? Oh, hunting high (or while high), stifling our nose bleed with a camo hanky smothered in EVERCALM. HMmmmm, maybe that’s why we’re high ?

The goal of this thread was to hopefully get some ideas going but I can see most in here just arent open to the idea and thats ok. I'd like to wish everyone a fun, safe and productive season as we approach our presprctive bow seasons.
