3 Point Spreader?

Well my old Cosmo 500 3 point spreader finally has gotten too bad for me to use. I got it from a friend who works at a landfill when someone brought it in and threw it away. I t had the door the fertilizer feeds out of pretty well rusted out when I got it and now 3 years later the cone has rusted horribly. This spreader had the inside agitator in it but I notice a lot do not have this any longer...

Does anyone know where or what brand is a really good 3 point cone spreader? Perhaps with the agitator and a 500 lb capacity?

It's funny you post this - I have one very similar (maybe the same brand) and I am waiting for the "cups" on the flinger wheel to come flying off of mine. I removed the agitator in mine because man was it loud when that hopper got empty! Sounded like somebody beating on the outside of a 55 gallon steel barrel!

Fertilizer is harsh stuff on equipment like this. If I would have been smart in the beginning I would have gotten one with a poly hopper and flinger parts!

I have a Taylor Way with a poly hopper that also has an agitator in it. Sounds like it would make a good fit for you.

I would recommend getting a poly hopper with stainless steel bottom/parts.

I have this one, Johnny. It came with the equipment when I bought the tractor used back in 2009. Has worked great, but not sure they are sold new anymore = can't find anything but auction info on internet. It is a Hollow 300 which I guess means 300 lb, I cannot remember how many 50 lb bags will fit. It has a lever which I assume is for left, center or right scatter but I keep it in center always.
I use it for fertilizer and seed, but wash it well afterwards, and pour oil on all moving parts.

I noticed Cosmo makes a tractor supply special with no agitator for $479 but agri-supply has a nice Cosmo 500 that holds over 1100 lbs like I had for $419 with agitator.

Hopefully I can locate something nice fairly local real soon because seed is hitting the dirt sometime in the next 3 weeks!

Very Interesting Buckhunrter. I'm almost ready for a new spreader. My tractor supply one is finally rusting out. Lasted longer than I can remember BUT it does not spread AG lime;does your Land Pride spread AG lime or just the pelletized lime? And what model # do you have? Are there any issues with the lime caking up in the spreader and not falling?

I just rebuilt my cosmo with a metal cone and stainless slinger. I could have gotten a plastic cone , but stayed with metal. Shipping was high because of the cone came on a pallet. Cost was high, but it looks new and works great.

Having seen both I would recommend the Cosmo with a poly hopper and stainless spinner plate. My neighbor and I both purchased an Agrex and we both have been disappointed with ours. He did not clean his well and stored it outside and only got one years use out of it before the spinner plate (painted steel not stainless) rusted and broke at the shaft. I cleaned mine well and stored inside after each use and mine is rusting pretty bad in the same spot as my neighbors. I was able to replace my spinner plate with a stainless cosmo replacement spinner plate and it has been working fine ever since.

Whatever brand you get make sure to get stainless shaft, spinner plate, and feed gates. Poly hopper is nice as well. Always clean with soap and water after use and coat with light oil before storing (inside preferably).

Mine looks just like lkngulf's, with one exception. When mine was brand new, I had a guy shoot it with bedliner on the inside and on the actual wheel that rotates. It has lasted since 2003 ! I patched a couple nicks in the liner this year with bedliner in a spray can. I wash mine out also and pour a little oil in the bottom and work the gate fast so the oil gets in the cracks. Beats buying a new one every two or three years.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I ended up buying the Euroch Agrex 500 from my local tractor and farm supply store which sells new and used equipment and also does mechanic work on tractors and equipment.

The spinner plate is painted steel but the stainless one off my Cosmo looks like it will fit and the shaft and feed gates are stainless. I wish the slingers were stainless as on my old one they rusted right along with my hopper rusting out and feed gates...

that should last you a lifetime if taken care of properly. As you know fertilizer is what kills ya on the spinners. A good cleaning then a light coat of wd-40 goes a long way in protecting it.

congrats. I bought mine used and it is on it's last leg. I will be in the market for one in the next year or two.

Take it to your local body shop and have the guy shoot all surfaces that will encounter fertilizer with bedliner. You will be glad you did. Mine was shot in 2003, used numerous times every year and is still in great shape. The one before that lasted three years !

That's a great tip but I wonder how that works if you have already used it to spread fertilizer...has the damage been done?

Different TSCs carry different things. Our polycone spreader came from the Siloam Springs store several yr ago. Spinner is black painted steel.

Stripping disc and touch up spray paint on bare metal will help keep corrosion at bay. The shield, spinner and frame on poly unit still need maintenance.

I would think if you clean it up before it will be fine. They are going to prep the surface anyway. The agitator and actual gates I did not coat. I always spread fertilizer first, then seed, then wash it out well, and then pour a little cheap motor oil on the plates before storing inside. Good luck !

Most box stores carry the spray can version....Rustolium truck bed liner.....we used it on old ATV spreader...works well.
