Last fall I purchased persimmon seeds. As soon as they arrived I put them in the refrigerator and they are still there, should be ready to pull out. It's February 20 here in Texas, I'm about an hour south east of Dallas. Today is should be in the middle 60's. Basically with the possible...
Some advice please.
I got my chestnuts early October. They were float tested and dried, and put into the refrigerator. I have been watching but as of yet I have no radicals showing. Last weekend, I pulled them, soaked them for about 8 hours (with only 2-3 floaters) and dried them. I only had...
Yeah, I think the weed issue is a big one. Brushpile recommends using black plastic or landscape cloth around the base to keep the weeds back and help with moisture.
I have lost over 200 tree seedlings in the last 2 years due to the Texas heat in summer. I have no reliable way to water. My biggest problem may be that I am planting in a wide open pasture space I am trying to reclaim for trees.

My ground typically doesnt get 'cold' until at least December. We have cold spells for a few days then warm up again, I've seen it in the 80's many times in November.
I would like to find a source of affordable trees to plant this fall. I think I could plant in a few weeks and avoid the hottest of summer. My thinking is the roots would be able to grow and develop for a couple months now, then start again in Feb. or March when the ground warms up, getting a...
Wbpdeer, I would also like more chestnuts again this year, if you don't mind sending them to a repeat customer. I want to try some different things from last year. For one, I didn't get mine stratified soon enough, had them on the top shelf of the 'fridge. That made my plantings late in the...
I'm over here from "the old forum" was Mr. Fixit over there.
Just an update Wbpdeer, heat and lack of water has really taken a toll on the chestnuts. I have only 6 left, all of those are potted at the house. None of the planted trees made it, they were all in the field where water was not...
