How to graft chestnut trees

I was wanting to know how do you graft your chestnut trees? What type of graft, what tape, what time of year? Just how you do it.
I'm really wanting to learn more about this. I have watched hours of videos.
Thanks

I have grafted chestnuts using a cleft graft with success. Wrapped as i would a persimmon. To be completely candid, the two trees i did that with died back to the ground within a couple of years. But i dont think it had anything to do with the graft because others did it too.
Ive had success on smaller diameter trees using good old whip/tongue. I did that on side branches and they are still growing strong. The deer have eaten most of the growth though.:)

I have looked at the whip/tongue for the last 4 hours. I think that's the way I'm looking at. Do you graft when the root stock is just starting to bud out?
