Im a long time single bevel shooter. Ive shot 150gr Samurai for years but I'm bumping up to the 200gr version this year. 665gr and 28% foc out of my recurve.Only thing I've killed with single bevel is pigs. Yet to whack a deer. Supposedly, single bevel continues rotating more aggressively after contact than double bevel. Still consider myself somewhat of a novice with trad bows. Maybe one of the more experienced trad guys will weigh in with their thoughts.
Thx Tap! I'm shooting left wing feathers so I ordered the left bevel. I've read the stuff from Ashby and also one of our members that was active on the old QDMA forum that did a walk thru of pics through the lungs on a deer he shot with single bevel head. Interesting thought on the right wing. Got 2 dozen Gold Tip's in left helical so I'm prolly gonna be shooting left bevel for quite some time. Started out with 125 grain heads. Started adding weighted inserts and the Zwickey's are 165 grain so I'm getting more and more FOC as I learn this process.Im a long time single bevel shooter. Make sure you match the fletchings to the bevel. If you shoot feathers a left bevel requires left wing feathers. Same with helical and off-set. Match the bevel.
Right bevel seem to be a little more popular than left bevel heads because the rotation will tighten the heads (due to thread direction) and a right bevel can loosen the heads. A head that is not tight is a weak spot in arrow integrity when it impacts heavy bone.
If you want to learn more, check out the Ashby reports. Dr Ed Ashby knows more about broadheads and arrow lethality than anyone on the planet. Ashby reports can be found on the Ashby Bowhunting Foundation, or Grizzlystik web sites.
I shot left bevel for years, simply because I already had left feathers, and left helical jig clamp.Thx Tap! I'm shooting left wing feathers so I ordered the left bevel. Great to see you back on here! Would love to hear all that you've been doing on the habitat and trad bow hunt for the past couple of years.Triple C, I haven't been on the forum in a couple of years. It's good to see your still chasing them with the trad bow. I've shot several deer with single bevels and you shouldn't have any problems with them. I use Grizzly heads and have been very happy with them.

Thx brother! I'll have to admit part of the attraction to trad bow is you get to watch a lot more deer than actually shoot. And, choosing the right setup to get close without detection is somewhat of an art form that I'm still learning. I've set 5 of those lil X-Stand Apollo stands so far, all on active, or soon to be active food sources and well brushed in. 2 over persimmon trees and 2 over soon to be dropping loaded white oaks. Those little stands are comfortable, easy to set and easy to get in and out of.Triple, luvin your increasing addiction to trad. I’ve been in rehab for a dislocated rib so bow been on the shelf. I got wheel bow out cranked it down from 65# to 50 cause I was scared to even string the recurve. Shot a few times and said screw this. Got out recurve. Shoulder feels like crap but you only live once.
Anyways I understand the single bevel thot process and no argument but I’ve been shooting 125 grain 3 blade Hellraiser with 25 grain insert for 7 years and am quite pleased. Nothing traveling out of sight when shot. Weapons and ammo much o nes choice like women, or men. I like redheads, especially since mines sitting here right beside me ! Good luck on your season.
