My property tour

My winter rye and winter wheat fields are looking great. The winter rye has chicory and clover mixed in. The winter wheat is straight wheat and will be a throw and mow plot later in the year.

Maybe the same buck as last year? A friend had this wide 8 at 23 yards during archery season but he stopped behind a tree. He never presented another shot.

My father got his buck back from the taxidermist. 63B4FA6F-7766-4360-A5AE-EFEB4959B922.jpeg
All three are off our property. The outsides are both archery and the center is a rifle season buck.

So much for a throw and mow plot into buckwheat. The deer ate it already. With limited doe tags available to us I don’t know how we can lower the deer herd so my plots can actually grow.

I didn’t think deer browsed nine bark but they are at my place.

And the bees are enjoying the rose bushes.

I’m very pleased with my trees from Blue Hill. They all look great and one tree already put an apple on.

My last years throw and mow is doing phenomenal. This is the most clover I have had planted on our place in one year and all plots are being utilized like crazy. And another 6/10ths of an acre in our large 5 acre destination plot. That portion of the field is steep and rocky. I plan on doing throw and mow on it until the clover takes in that area. 46ADFD79-E35E-4F49-A69D-8AA15336AEE0.jpeg

We did some berry picking today. A lot weren’t ripe just yet but it was enough for us. The girls had a blast and were more concerned about filling their mouths then the container.

We also spotted some Canadian Lily’s. I’ve never seen them around before. My girls wanted to pick them and take them home.

The bucks just showed back up after a 2 week hiatus. I wonder where they go off to. We don’t have much ag around us. And what is planted is corn, no soybeans. The fawn in the clover field is the only yearling picture we are getting. But I don’t have any cameras in our 5 acre destination plot Bc the rye and winter wheat is so tall.

One of my fall throw and mow plots. Winfred brassica, soybeans, sunflowers, and buckwheat. The winter rye I broadcasted into appears to have germinated. It will probably choke everything out in certain areas.

Here is one of our clover plots. The deer are utilizing it but it’s not as pretty or thick as previous years. I’m waiting for a rain storm to come through and broadcast brassicas, more clover, and winter rye.

Probably the nicest buck on camera so far. They are in the throw and mow brassica and soybean plot and next to last years throw and mow clover and chicory.

I think it’s the same song and dance every year for me. I get busy with work and my family and I don’t plant early enough and then it starts getting to late and no rain in the forecast. I’m taking a chance tomorrow and broadcasting two acres of PTT and forage collards. I go on vacation Tuesday morning. So the rain either comes when I’m gone or the seed sits dry for a few extra days.

I have 600 pounds of WR and WW and red clover as my fail safe if these plots fail.

That's basically what I did. I was sitting on dry powder down 4'. I got done moving dirt and figured I gotta throw something out there in the event it does rain. I am probably going to blow on all my perennial seed this weekend if I get around to it. There's another batch of rain coming and I'd like to hit it.

The deer are really putting a hurting on my Winfred brassica plot. Hopefully when I get back from vacation I can get a timely rain to put down some fertilizer.

I added 5 lbs of winfred to my brassica mix this year. It’s just getting going. Hopefully they leave it alone awhile still.
