I was digging through some old boxes yesterday and found this. It brought back some old memories. I remember as a child ordering a lot of hunting and fishing things from Herters.

My grandfather loved shooting crows. My dad would go as a kid to the garbage dump /yea called landfill now , and shoot crows and rats. Makes for good marksman. Don’t hear if it much anymore.

They are tame around my house. When FIL plants corn in the garden I may have to fire off a shot or two and they get wild fast. Been noticing them lately working on left over beech nuts from last fall.

I bet that call could tell some stories if it could talk. My dad has a pecan tree in his back yard and the crows are always trying to steal the pecans when they get ripe.

On a side note dad and I got permission from a gentleman that is supposed to be covered up with turkeys. The owner showed us around yesterday and there is an old home place on it with only the chimney still standing. I’m hoping dad will take a turkey off the property so I can get a picture of him in front of the old chimney. I think it would be a great picture to have since he turned 73 this year.

Good luck to you and your dad on that turkey hunt deer patch.

I have an old Herters recurve bow at home. It was my fathers. I had a friend of a friend from Black Widow bows look it over a few years ago and put a new string on it. He actually shot it pretty good. I don't. I remember many days paging through the catalog for hours as a child mesmerized by all of the outdoor equipment they had.

That old Herter’s catalogue was a standby for me for many, many years. I remember buying a duck hunting coat from them. My first coat in camo and first one with a hood, and I wore that sucker out ! They were the Amazon of hunting and fishing supplies. If they didn’t have it, you probably didn’t need it......
