Good stuff. How does that sycamore work for you for firewood? I'm cutting some up from the big tree that I dropped in the cabin plot.

Thanks G. If you let it season, Sycamore makes good firewood. It burns quicker than oak but would be much better than a light wood like pine. I would recommend burning sycamore during the day and saving the oak to hold a fire all night.

Hey dogghr, yes, the old posts are locust. The main areas I'm working in is soggy ground, and as you know, that will reduce the life substantially. You can count on me buying your dinner, but we will have to find us a different restaurant, because they closed the Circle R. Jump on that hog of yours and let me know when you will arrive!

Congrats on your upcoming retirement Steve! Not far behind you. I've often thought when I retire I'd like to take a few trips and visit the properties of many of my keyboard habitat friends. One thing I think we all know for sure is that you won't be sitting on a front porch rocking away when you retire. Never tire of catching up on what you are doing on your properties!

I've not posted in this thread for a while, but I have been very busy with habitat work - planting lots of shrubs and doing some screening.

Below are some of the willow cuttings planted this spring coming to life:

Shoot, we have had freezing temps and snow the last 3 weekends. Then opening day of Turkey season 6 inches of snow decided to fall today. I’m ready to green up in our WV mountains.

We are at freezing this morning. Looks like the end of the week might be a better time to be out. I’m hoping our fruit crop doesn’t get bit too badly by these cold temps.

My 100 acre place got hit by a tornado last night. I have a terrible mess but still feel blessed. Also, I haven't heard of any neighbors hurt or any that lost their homes, so that is a relief. My fields are laying full of trees and I have bad damage in one area of the woods. However, my tower blind is just fine and most of my best trees are not hurt. I'm looking at weeks of cleanup but still very grateful. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

Oh my. Hate that. Amazing what damage those twisters can do. Glad you and neighbors are OK. I was in Louisville back in 1974 when a big one came thru

I live 20 minutes away, and only found out about it because a neighbor called me. I waited until this morning to go over, because there isn't much a guy can do in the dark. I will certainly try to turn it into a positive. Looks like I will have plenty of firewood to cut for my mom.....
