Great pictures as usual! Too bad about the poplar mineral stump, thats the dominant tree on the property I'm buying.

Thanks. You should go ahead and try the poplar at your new property, because the results might be different there, but they seemed uninterested here.

I know that they don't get fully ripe until sometime in the fall. I remember them just slowly starting to disappear into the winter. I'm sure the birds get a lot of them.

Fish, that brush mower is a dream machine for me doing the tree planting maintenance that I do. I can go back into spots that are too narrow for my tractor and hog. In the first few rows of large trees (oaks, pines, etc.) that border my fruit and nut section I'm trying to create a savannah effect before it transitions into what will be just a normal woods. I really love it for that work. Also, up in the fruit and nut section the DR is what I use in the early spring to do the first cleaning. Then after that, I can mow that part with a riding lawn mower.
I also will use the DR later to do a couple of small no till plots in tight places. It works great for that too.
I have two Bevan's Favorites at home, and both have light crops this year. On the one that gets lots of sun, I'm starting to see the red stripes. The other one is in a spot that's a little shady, and those are still green looking. I think maybe another week or two and some might start ripening.

Fish, I took this Bevan's pic yesterday. But look in the second pic how the one right next to it is still green. You can also see a couple more at the bottom left of the second pic just starting to get some color.
You might also like these. They are some clean looking apples so far. These are from a seedling tree, so I guess I will get to name this one.
My new deer is still growing and here every day. I guess we need a name for him too. I'm open to suggestions.

I couldn't get the red clover I like the most this year (Barduro).
So, I'm trying another one (Gallant). Anyone used this? Supposed to be very long lived.

Bevan's falling off the tree now. Great early no spray apple with good taste.

Your dad looks good! Brush work looks good. Nice color in the plots with aster (or fleabane) and blackeyed susan among the purple. Have not heard or used Galiant variety RC....but should do well in your climate. Red leaves on persimmon are from fast new growth....red is in the type of chlorophyll before it becomes green pigmented. See more of that in the tropics under very high rather than our temperate climate. Looks like I need to come over your way and haul some fruit back for canning. What type of vetch is in background of last pic?

That is Crown Vetch. I planted some in a fence row around some apple trees once and it continues to grow there, and I have no problem with it spreading, because its a place I mow often. I noticed some hairy vetch in another spot recently that was in bloom. That is a remnant from tobacco cover crops 40+ years ago.
Yes, we had a good rain recently, so all should be well here for a while. Plots are being eaten heavily right now - especially red clover, chicory and alfalfa.
