White oaks dropping early...

I have been watching the white oaks around our house and this year they are dropping acorns heavy about 3 weeks early. I thought they might be aborting but they are viable. Anyone else seizing this? They may be done before our bow opener this year...

Yep, acorns are already dropping here too, but they aren’t very big, at least the ones I’ve seen. I think it’s because it’s been so hot and dry in July/August. September ain’t been a winner either. Two inches here at home and one inch at my lease in two months......

My DCO's dropped earlier than usual. Chinkapin's are just starting. Burr still hanging tight.

Ours are full size and viable...wettest summer we have had in many years...

The white oaks in my yards are really dropping right now. We are in a long drought, and I felt like that might have something to do with it. My yard is toast.

Interesting, because we are so wet in MN. I have water standing every where even on high ground, and the acorns are falling fast. I thought that the oaks might not like their feet wet and were dropping because they were stressed. So much water its drowning out my 3-4 year oak seedlings.

Yea, hard to say. Stress can come either way - too wet or too dry...

We are not too wet or too dry...get rain about once or twice a week in low amounts...tenths of inches. I don’t know if we will ever stop mowing. My plot I planted in August is getting a lot of new grass in it. Will have to completely spray it dead next fall I suppose...

I shot a doe under a dropping white oak on September 13th last year, the chestnut oaks were dropping then as well.

I was on our property the last few days of August this year. Chestnut and red oaks were already dropping. Nothing under the whites at that time.

We haven’t spent enough time on our place to know what’s early or normal but I did think August 30 seemed a bit early.

My reds and whites have been dropping for sometime. Some are small, most are normal. Deer have taken notice...
