Where to buy 5-6' apple trees

I commit the cardinal sin of buying mine at big box stores. I have never bought them on-line. Hopefully you will get some other replies. I think "Turkey Creek" a member here has a fruit tree nursery - you may want to send him a PM and see if he can help.
 
Probably tough to get them that big just because they have to proon to get them in the box. 4-5ft is I think the standard but plenty of good nurseries such as Cummins, century farms, and the wildlife group as well turkey Creek on this forum.
 
It will be tough to find trees that size for the reasons already mentioned. Shipping gets to be a deal breaker once you get to a certain size. When you dig bigger trees you lose a higher percentage of the root mass and then the top needs to be pruned back to counter what was lost. At that point there is no point to buying a 6' tall tree.
 
A 5' - 6' is just a growing season away when you order good trees. I would recommend Turkey Creek or Cummins.
 
Im sure Turkey Creek is one of the best. Ive ordered from Century Farm and gotten pretty good diameter and heighth on apple trees. Mm111 stock.

Also Adams County Nursery and Stark Bros. I've bought thousands from these two. Always good trees. Get with some friends, buy in bulk and save. Stark starts at 50, ACN 25. This will get you trees at $15 or less.

Hallman Farms in South Carolina is a really great place to buy trees. Beautiful trees and great service .
 
I am looking to make an order as well and I found 2 websites that look to have good pricing.
1. USA Nursery ($12.95 for 3-5 ft)
2. TyTy Nursery $12.75 for 3-4 ft)

Anyone have any experience with them? I was thinking of purchasing the following to plant in Western IL which is zone 5.

Dolgo Crabapples x4
Liberty x4
Wildlife Persimmon x4
Kiefer Pears x4
Goldrush x4
Arkansas Black x4

I am fairly new to this so if you have any opinions on my order for my area, please do not hesitate to mention it!
 
I have no experience personally with those nurseries but I have seen negative comments before in reference to ty ty nursery maybe someone will chip in. A big thing I like to know is the rootstock the trees are on. As far as the varieties you have picked they are solid disease resistant varieties with the possible exception of gold Rush though I've heard it will fruit anyway (has trouble with CAR).
 
Thanks Neahawg, I am going to replace TyTy with the Wildlife Group you or someone recommended. They have what I needed.
 
I have experience with Century farm orchards and Hallman farms.You can't go wrong with either one.
 
Didn't Hallman take over the Morse nursery trees?Or maybe they just had some the same name.Like I mentioned before the trophy pears wern't fire blight resistant so be sure and check what you are getting so you don't waste years like I did before cutting them down
 
TyTy ........ run, run very far away from them!! I have never seen a positive comment regarding them anywhere on the internet world.

Any insights on USA Nursery? Their prices seem too good to be true... makes me leery.
 
Sorry we are sold out of most everything at this point. We might have a few trees to add back to our inventory at the end of this coming week if we still havent gotten the required deposits in for those trees.

I have never heard of USA Nursery.

Im not sure if they were Morse or not . I just ordered my first trees from Hallman Farms this winter. I ordered some Giovan pears and common persimmons .All of the trees looked great The Giovans were very thick, sturdy trees . I've also been ordering trees from Century Farm orchards and Vintage Virginia Apples for some years now ,with good results .From time to time, Ive also picked up a few pear trees from Lowes.I have some 5 and 6 year old Kieffers from Lowes that have gotten huge and are good producers . Most were producing by year 3 .I dont know the root stock but no complaints. Ill get a few fireblight strikes but no big deal .I just cut it out and trees keep on ticking .
I figured that I would try the Giovans as they should drop late into the hunting season .

I'd also toss in Van Well Nursery. I haven't personally bought from them, but they have a lot of good varieties and rootstock and keep their inventory updated pretty well.
