What tree is this nut from?

found this in Ohio, weird seeing nuts drop already but may because of lack of rain. Any idea what tree it is from?

If it's got a hard shell, green now, and fairly round it could be mockernut hickory. Probably one or the other. Mockernuts are basically wothless to wildlife although squirrels will chew on them.

Yep - hickory nut. They drop early basically squirrel food.

Definitely hickory and looks like mockernut to me.
