What is it

Like the title says, what is it? It's growing around my parents pond. In the last pic, the little star looking thing is where the bloom was. And the blooms were small and yellow, and the stems are square if that helps.

Looks like some type of Willow tree or shrub to me . They spread like wildfire around my pond .

At first glance I thought it may be a willow of some sort as well. Does the lower portions have a more "woody" appearance or it it more vegetative like say ragweed?

It has more the appearance of ragweed. A little more info on it, it grew there last year as well, and at the end of the summer it put on pods the looked a bit like inch and a half long green beans. They were filled with tons of tiny seeds, not much bigger than the period at the end of this sentence. They die away every winter and come back every spring
