Trade them for a shotgun and a good retriever (one who won't balk at picking up doves or pigeons) and go for doves, ducks and fowl maybe? Hard to screw up the flavor of birds.
I eat the ducks I shoot and if enough bacon is added, they taste great.
If you can’t handle the game flavor of wild venison, don’t bother shooting a duck or dove.

When I was seven, my grandfather got some venison from a hunter buddy at work to share with the family. It was as good to me as any beef. I have tasted both excellent venison and lousy venison as I have tasted both excellent beef and rotten beef.
Where do you get this information? I lived in CA for 15 years. The hard to draw X-zones offer better trophy potential but definitely no better table-fare. Those zones are filled with sage brush eating mule deer.In California, the best venison comes from certain zones which are next to impossible to draw tags for.
I got this from the eldest son of an Irish-Catholic SFPD cop. This eldest on was born in 1950 and never hunted a day in his life. He was under the impression that crap-tasting venison comes from crap deer zones. My crap deer came from B-2 in Trinity County. This man was an avid fisherman, though.Where do you get this information? I lived in CA for 15 years. The hard to draw X-zones offer better trophy potential but definitely no better table-fare. It seems as I have read some hunting article years ago that said acorns ruin meat flavor. I'd expect quality meat game to feed on grains, fruits and grass. My grandfather said ducks that eat fish will stink to high heaven when cooked. Good meat ducks are shot in the rice fields of California's central valley, not in salty marshes.
I did some web searching, and I think I've found the perfect hunt for Jonathan based on what I've read here. See link below. And the good news is that they are currently running a sale.....

You can't consume "fake" (virtual) game for nutrition. Anyway, I aim to get some real doe venison before I die of old age, by horse or by ATV. A guided doe-days hunt seems to be my best bet.
