This buck was on the camera at 8:30 pm. He disappeared for 2 hours and came back shedding his velvet. I don’t think I have ever narrowed down to that small of a window. Pretty cool I think!
I had someone tell me in the past who raised deer and I have seen it firsthand with the pen raised deer down the road from my house that once an individual starts rubbing velvet they dont stop until its gone. Pretty short window of when they have velvet to when they no longer do.
When I used to work in the university deer pens, if we saw a buck starting to shed, we were most probably darting it, sawing the antlers off, and moving it to another pen that evening.
