OK archery hunters, here's the deal. My tracking dog, Cletus, has passed his first certification with UBT and is progressing very well.
We are interested in helping with any track, but what would be great training at this point is several good solid practice tracks where the odds are very good that there is a dead deer at the end of the track. Therefore, we are offering a $25 gift certificate to Murf's Guns to any hunter within an hour's drive of Duncan, OK that is willing to make the shot, get down and contact us to run a totally uncontaminated track. We will even will help with dragging and field dressing if needed.
I promise it will be fun to see Cletus in action! 580-467-6006 text preferred

Thought it was illegal to use dogs in Oklahoma in any aspect of deer hunting including recovery?

This fall the ODWC is allowing the wardens to work with trackers in their area at the wardens descetion. Each track must be warden approved prior to tracking and the hunter and location given. This is not something I've heard but something I checked on in person at ODWC. Our protocol on a track is 1)gain warden approval 2) dog always on leash 3) no tracking across property lines without approval and 4) no weapons in tracking party. This is strictly a recovery effort with no pretense of hunting. We have worked with several different wardens in different counties and all have been nothing but supportive.

Okie, I've been trying to tell you that tracking is being legalized and in the meantime local game wardens have discretion. Please help get the word out. I will track in Oklahoma, and backnwhack is trying to get the ball rolling by giving a gift certificate for the first track. backnwhack has put a lot of effort into training a blood tracking dog, and needs a track!

Have you worked with Brady May or Tony Clark?

Cherokee county, no that is 4hours from me. It would not be a bad idea just to call your warden(s) and get their input. I can tell you that the wardens I have worked with see us as a resource and I always report back regarding the results of the track. If I ever call to check in for approval and the warden says no, I absolutely will not track.

The best thing I've found to do is just get out and ride the roads looking for hunting camps and hunters on the weekends. I've tried to get the word out in several different manners and meeting folks in person and talking to them has been the most successful way.
