As for the job I sold my business in Dec and retired. Was unplanned but couldn’t turn down offer as I’m no young pup. Like all of Merica no one wants go back to work. We were staying few days at the GB and just in conversation had 3 job offers for PT as they are shorthanded. I’ve actually haven’t convinced wifey completely of the Jeep thing as she thinks some dude will get me killed. Could be but another good story. Lol. She don't care much for most my speed hobbies no way.
Moab is on bucket list soon w my SIL. I’ve ridden the Harley thru that country but never jeeped it. I’m sure it can be a beast. I’ll have reach out to you when we do to get some trail pointers.

We’ve only done Moab once, so I’m very much a novice. I’d HIGHLY recommend SW CO though. There are hundreds of miles of trails around Silverton and Ouray. The Alpine Loop is world famous. Most of the trials are mild to moderate, with a few difficult ones. But nothing compared to some of what you’ve done I’m sure. The best part about that area is the scenery, it’s truly breathtaking. There are some crazy difficult trails around Buena Vista and Salida CO, which is about a day’s drive away. If you plan to take a summer trip, CO is the way to go, Moab will roast you. If you want to go in the fall or spring, Moab is the way to go. Most of the high trails in CO don’t even open until July.

Speaking of YouTube, back to Silverton, check out Poughkeepsie Gulch. It’s Dad’s and my favorite trail in the world. We plan to head back out that way the summer of 2022. We had some friends go out last year and the whole area was a circus. With all the resorts and cruises shut down, I guess people decided to give camping a go. I’m hoping many of them go back to their cruises when available again!!

Thot of you today KS. Took the Jeep down into the Glade Creek gorge. Relatively mild class 1-3. I was alone so didn’t do too much stupid.
Bridge is highest interstate bridge in US, 81st highest n world. Great trout stream but I had no luck today. Creek crossing relatively mild.

I got hooked on atv trail riding through this group. I spent two summers out there riding with them. An absolutely unbelievable
place. I've ridden trails from Salt Lake City all the way down to Moab. They are mostly ATV riders, but Gary, the fella that runs that site, is about the most knowledgeable person in the state on anything to do with the trails. He's a legend it that area.

Dawna and I headed to the Massey this afternoon to get a few shrubs/trees in the ground from Kansas forestry. I saw Cat had planted these a year or two ago. I originally planned to plant these around the house when I ordered last fall, but when we lost the hive, I changed spots. I actually forgot I ordered these.
The plan is to get a hive established at the Massey next spring.

I see mud on your steering wheel! That's how my plantings have been this year too.

I planted that exact bundle a year ago. Nice little plants for the price. I lost quite a few of them... but I did nothing for protection or watering. Just stuck them in the ground and walked away. Might try to transplant some this year as I'm having location regrets.

Ya, they are cheap and good so it's easy to order more than you actually want.

You mentioned the grass hiding them. I recall when my dad and I planted some white pines so small that we had to drive tobacco sticks in the ground to find them when we mowed. Now they are 60 feet tall.

Got the main plot that needed attention sprayed today. 12 oz of gly, 16 oz of cleth, 16 oz of crop oil, and a couple cups of AMS. Thanks for the help everybody.

Winter rye isn’t just for foodplots! We’ve been using it as a cover crop in our garden for the past 5 years. Our entire place is on a slope, so we have to have something to hold the soil all winter. We do lose some soil each year, but the winter rye has kept the dirt in great shape. I broadcast it each fall with my own triple thirteen mix left over from foodplot work. The rye seems to release a lot of nitrogen in the soil, we never fertilize in the spring.

I mowed the rye last week to make it a little easier on the disk.

All done, it’s all ready for the tiller in a week or two.

Last fall’s cereal plot is exploding. Another few weeks and I’ll be able to tell what’s what, wheat, rye, and oats.

Look a little closer though and you see clover, and a new one to me — chicory. It’ll be interesting to see how our deer adapt to the chicory.

The brassica plot will be put to buckwheat in another month. I’ll prolly have to mow it down once to keep the turnips from going to seed.

The established clover really took to the throw and mow of wheat, oats, and rye we put in last fall. There’s some grass that will have to be dealt with, but I’d rather let the cereals mature than spray this time around and see how the clover reacts. I’m a newbie with this throw and mow stuff.

The pears from wildlife group are waking up.

Last year’s crabs from northern whitetail are looking good.

My deer adapted to chicory very well! I grow it but you can't tell without an exclusion cage.

Where you did throw and mow, could I ask when you mowed, what kind of mower you used, and how low you were able to cut it? Thanks for the encouragement guys! I simply used a three point brush hog and I mowed the established clover down to about 4”. I didn’t do any spraying for prep, so wasn’t sure what would happen; if I had, I think I’d be doing better with the cool season grasses now. I did the t&m the 3rd week of September if I remember correctly. Ideally this year, I’d like to spray about that time, hopefully allowing the cool season grasses be coming out of dormancy, and then t&m about the first of October. The issue for me is when to spray, too early and I get no cool season grass kill and too late and the Johnson grass is no longer actively growing. Also, I like to be done completely by October if at all possible.
