For the Texas guys, is there any truth to the rumor the federal department of energy forbid texas utilities from cranking out higher levels of power because of emissions caps? Supposedly the utilities asked for a waiver to the cap and it was denied.

I heard that and tried looking it up. I found a write up in Infowars. Not sure about the validity

And yes it was 59 deg today. Absolutely crazy, but that is how it goes down here. Made a trip across the river to check in the farm. I have a 2000 gal water tank that was still fairly frozen. The valve in the mainline busted and let water through the valve. Not I’m afraid I’ll have water in my pump and pressure tank.
Given the circumstances, I’m ok with that

I bet if you knew how much those board members are making you would really be pissed.The weather man gave alot of notice surprised they didn't winterize the generators so they would run.Looks like someone dropped the ball.Problem in Kansas is we ship our power to other states so we had to have rolling brownouts.If they raise natural gas to what they are saying there will be riots.They are already closing schools here expecting to the gas bill to be too high.

Mark, right now you can hear just about anything you want to hear, and I can’t vouch for the reliability of any of it. As Baker said, the finger pointing has begun. The governor blames ERCOT, they blame somebody else, and they blame everybody. In truth, I think there’s enough blame to go around. Lots of failure in all kinds of energy, coal, natural gas, wind, and solar. I think that nobody thought it would be as bad as it was, and furthermore, they didn’t care. I also believe that folks will vote a lot of folks out of office, and most of them had no say in it. Most of the guilty aren’t elected IMO. These types of things don’t go sour overnight and they don’t get fixed overnight either.

Having lived through a few Houston hurricanes I’m still amazed by the amount of people who don’t have a backup generator. Looking at the stock price of Generac more than a few people are betting that’s going to change.

Especially after berating someone else for doing something similar. I didn’t hear all the details simply because I watch less news than ever these days. I’ve about come to the conclusion that all politicians suck, some just more than others. I’ve become pretty jaded with politics and government in general.

I look at it like this...Ted Cruz going somewhere with his family is no big deal...he does everything he does by phone or computer...it’s not like he was gonna be driving snowplows and putting up power lines. He is just as assessable and can do exactly the things that need to be done through electronics and from the sound of it may have been even more assessable in a place with power.

I can't believe natural gas will rise a huge amount. Here in Pennsylvania we are sitting on 63 trillion cubic feet of natural gas that we'd like to sell, but the price has been lower than what the companies want to pump it. If the price increase by just a quarter or so, the drillers will open a lot more valves.

I think we should all get ready for more crazy weather, and other things we would not have expected a few years ago.

We take it for granted that we will always have electricity, clean water, gas ... and affordable gasoline and food. But it
may not be so. Becoming prepared to stay at home for a few days, even weeks, is not all that difficult, and doesn't
really cost much. And for hunters, some of the things you probably already have -- propane stoves, water purification
devices -- are on the 'be prepared' lists, so you're ahead of the game.

I think you have as good a chance of being right as being wrong. In any case, with a full sized deep freeze and two refrigerator freezers, plenty of firewood, a backup generator, my own water well, and a pantry full of canned goods, I’ll be prepared in case the big freeze happens again. Ain’t saying I’m smarter than anyone else, maybe just more paranoid ! If things get really bad, I’ll eat one of these nasty suckers !
