Summer No-till Plot - Buckwheat & Sunn Hemp

Thanks, that’s useful information- I understand that the one downside to Sunn Hemp is that it is slow to establish and buckwheat sounds like a good companion planting.

I would not say sunn hemp is slow to establish, but it is certainly slower than buckwheat like most crops. If you look at the pictures back from the beginning of the thread, you can see how the buckwheat grows first but the sunn hemp eventually dominates. They work well together as sunn hemp is a legume fixing N into the soil.

The buckwheat is sensitive to cold and will soon die off when we get a cold night making room for the fall plant. Deer use has been heavy as the previous videos show. We got rain last night and you can see the fall plant coming in through the buckwheat.
