Spring Plots

What are the trees in the middle of the field, I want to chop them down

The pine tree is on a lease, taking out pines is verboten. (except the little ones that they don’t know about)

The hickory is at home. I took a bunch of red oaks out of that plot a few years ago but the hickory was one I kept a camera on. I filled up my woodshed with those oaks. When the sun eats this plot up, I’m taking it out. I’m tired of dodging it !

Here’s a picture I took of my big plot yesterday. We had to move two stands because they are clear cutting the 50 acres on my end of a long, narrow lease that I’m on. I’m not looking forward to this season much as it will be a total disaster, but Mother Nature will soon take over and it will be better than ever. If I live that long !😀. Picture two deer stands sitting in the middle of this plot !🙁IMG_3830.jpeg

We have had some cool days and even cooler nights up until the last couple of days. You can see it by the lack of growth in my food plot. It should be twice as tall as it is in this picture, but I see that changing in the coming weeks. I probably should have planted a little later but we had some unnaturally cool weather for late April and early May. IMG_3888.jpeg

It looks dry? We've had average seasonal temps in the northeast, if anything a bit warmer than usual, but the big food plot story here is that, unlike last year, we've had some pretty good rains this spring. As far as the cold weather, I thought you have 2 seasons where you are, summer, and 4 weeks until summer?

Usually, you would be right MM, but this spring has been unusually cool. We have had plenty of rain, it’s just the surface that’s dry. We are about to get some more rain in a little while, but the warm weather is needed more than rain. That picture was taken a couple days ago, and I was over there this morning and I think the stuff has grown two inches.

BTW, here’s that lawnmower you wanted to see…….🙂 Toro 54” cut, suspension seat and floor. Kawasaki 23 hp. IMG_3893.jpeg
