I tried those steps many years ago and found them to be brittle and prone to break at very bad times. But good luck to you. Some may balk at the damage to a tree. I found 6" angle iron ,cut into 1.5" pieces held with a 4"X 3/8" hex head wood lag bolt very secure for hang on stand set up.Used a ratchet wrench. Carried a battery drill for a pilot hole.Dipped the screws in hot bees wax as a lube to make them EZ in and out. Too old for tree climbing now.Please wear a harness. Do it for your family.

I've never had one of these break, but nothing is bombproof. Every climbing method can fail. Harnesses are a requirement as soon as you get past the 1st step.
These type of steps do need to be used properly. They need to be fully inserted into the tree so the vertical part of the step makes contact with the tree.
I still climb, but now it's tree bolts and a saddle for me.
