Puzzle me this

My late daddy told me knowledge comes from taking thing apart. He continued by saying, wisdom comes from being able to put the thing back together. I come seeking wisdom.

I have a couple Bushnell Trophy cams and a Reconyx. None of them have been working to a level I would prefer. Yes. All the typical things have been considered and corrected.

Now, there's no shame in these cams because they all are at least six or seven years old and have been out 24 x 7 x 365.

I brought them home, and, seeking knowledge, I took each apart. I was surprised to see what I think is a flat disc battery in each. The two Bushnells are the smaller hearing aid battery. The Reconyx internal battery is bigger. About the size I use in my fob.

Am I right, do you know? I should have taken a picture of each before I put them back together.

Enlighten me? Are they what I think they are? If so, what do they power?

I think it is short term memory for the date and time stuff. I change the batteries on my Browning’s and never have to redo the settings. I always figured that is because they had a small backup battery.

I agree.Just like a feeder motor. They power some sort of memory storage for the time & date probably. Who knows maybe when they get weak they dont have the power to trigger something and I've thrown a 1/2 dozen good cams in the trash and all they needed was an internal battery replaced.!!

After a little reading I’m sure this internal battery just supplies a little power to whatever chip is keeping your setting, including the clock, if your regular power supply goes dead. Nothing more. Thanks fellows! I can now trash my old cams without worry!

That is what they are for,I did have one of my moultries that quit taking pics but would light up just fine and program.Then I noticed the battery power said 000% so i replaced batteries and it came back.You don't realyy notice because you have to wait for it to change to that screen on it's own.Still wish I could fix my brownings,wondering if the batteries just have to be above 80%

There must be some other issue buckdeeer;Many of mine are at 70% and all are working fine.

So far as the power to keep the clock running, I thought, maybe, somehow, there was a capacitor that held a charge (from the battery pack) to keep the clock running. Duh, huh?

Gotcha. I agree with others...Probably a batter backup. Bet the folks who've built their own cams would know.
