Greetings.. So I just erased the words I WANTED to start this out with.. I'm about as passive as it comes without hugging trees or escaping to the saferoom to color.. So I can't even throw down FAKE anger.. Its not your doing after all..

My question.. The land we own is prime (with a capitol prime) hunters wet dream (found the porn to prove it), and we tolerate a certain amount of trespass but in the last 3 years I think the local king poacher must have retired..and all the wannabees are competing for the areas all at once. King poacher used to only allow his trained minions to partake in what he fought hard to steal..and now that he's gone I think the word is out..and we're in the middle of a poachers war. Its our fault for not patrolling from the beginning I guess.. But you guys really don't like it when an owner tries to say please done come back here anymore.

Is there a way to help settle things more quickly so I can have only 3 poachers again? Advertise in the paper for a "guard" position with free hunting privelidges, and hope only the strongest poacher applies?

Why is it you guys can't just go where you're allowed? I KNOW its likely that given a chance, just about everyone wants something for nothing..so its not gonna stop.. I just want less beer cans and deer cameras and little red ribbons tied to my branches and less deer guts (cripe take them away its like you're rubbing my face in it!)

Any advice? Someone said scatter some 458 socom shells around but they're expensive!

You deal with trespassers and poachers by prosecuting them to the fullest extent. It is going to take cameras and effort on your part to catch them in the act.

As Turkey Creek mentioned it is going to take effort on your part. I live on my hunting land. I fenced it myself and I patrol it but we are only talking 80 acres...

We also have a 1500 acre deer lease that is part of 15000 acres owned by one man. He knew he couldn't keep everyone out when he bought it so he split it into different leases and he keeps 5000 acres in the middle for his own hunting spot. Leases are all the way around so the lease guys keep the trespassers under control...

It's all relative...

Its probably illegal for me to record sound, but maybe I can take all the lic plates I've got pictures of over the last 2 years and find where they live, and start a reality show following each of them.. Their 55000$ trucks, big house, no job, wife plus girlfriend.. Once the wives start divorce proceedings I'll get each wife's story for the documentary. Poachers in the wild..

Find out what the trespass laws are in your state. Then make sure you've got standing to prosecute (you've met the requirement for posting). Make friends with the law dog that regulates trespassing and keep him on speed dial. I'd even let him know when you'll be on the lookout.

Do the work and start busting some people. But first, make an assessment of who you're dealing with. If they are dirt poor meth heads, they may just burn your place to the ground. If it's some POS with something to lose, the law may work.

It sounds like you've set a precedent for allowing trespassing and it's going to be hard to break that culture because, "My daddy's daddy hunted this long before you got here with all your fancy city money."

I think that given a chance, most people want something for nothing. I'm seeking advice from the poachers, or the repressed poacher in most of you.(never strayed to the line just to peek?? Uh huh) I can admit to being a repressed serial skirt-hiker.. I've never acted on it because I have perfect control over it... So when you read that I'm calling you a poacher, not really.. Just like I'm not a skirt-hiker.

Mark you've got two phrases up there I've heard on site. The burn, and the long time border less rule. I lived on bases and in a car during part of my childhood.. Today I can afford the mortgage if there was one. I'm trying to balance the poaching with usage that I control - whatever that may be.. Quad-copter races during deer season, logging, perhaps a cabin made with only a chainsaw. I don't want to have to retreat during deer season. They've had 25 years.. I've got 20 healthy years left.. Fair?

I am not. I could do it to feed myself but I happen to know what deer would say if they could talk.. Um, "don't kill me"

Now a chicken was declared by the us govt to NOT be an animal. (Can't apply cruelty laws ha!) So don't give me the "do you eat meat" thing.. I'm okay with you killing as many as you want.. That little sound they let out as the arrow cuts into their skin..well I'm not interested in hearing that.. And I admire those who legally and skillfully do so.

Thank you who have given thoughtful advice. Delete as you must.. I'll stop replying but I will look for other advice as long as it's still up. I vote that this is a thread with useful perspective and a relevant issue to your sport.

From, this is a deer Hunter forum so if you are not a deer Hunter or even someone who supports deer hunting then this may not be the place for you.

We are not a bunch of poachers and we have our own places so we have no need to be looking past the fence. I know for certain I do not and if you have read my post I don't even condone hunting within sight of a fence or property.

Get some evidence and turn it over to the sheriff...
