Not hunting……

……..but hunting related. I run cell cameras on protein feeders, food plots, and a hog trap. All my feeders are penned with hog panels to keep the nasty buzzards from destroying them. While checking my pics Saturday morning I saw two newly born fawns in one of my pens. As I was about to refill it anyway, the wife and I took the CanAm over to see what we could do. Mama was in the pen with them as we turned the corner but hopped out and drifted off into the brush. We opened the gate, backed up to the feeder, and I climbed into the buggy to pour the pellets in. One of the fawns never even twitched, but the other one raised its head and studied us as I filled the feeder. They were 18/20 feet away the whole time. We concluded our business and left the gate open as we left. When the next pics uploaded, they were gone. I figure mama never went far, and was a little way out in the brush the whole time. I thought about them early this morning as a storm rolled in and dumped over three inches of cold rain on us in about as many hours. It’s tough on little critters out in the wilds !

I’m not sure if this was her, but she’s a likely candidate !IMG_3907.jpegIMG_3908.jpeg05160290.jpeg

Cool!
I bet momma felt safe in that pen. I put an exclusion cage up in a plot over the winter, just to find out the veg stayed shorter in it than outside of it. Hit it with a spotlight one night and there were 3 rabbits in it. Figure they felt safer in the cage than out of it.

I was tempted to leave them in there for a day or two, but with the forecasted storms and the buck traffic I get at that feeder, I figured the doe could take care of them better outside.

Very cool!

How they ever grow up is a wonder to me. So many things want to eat them. Nice pics and hope the little buggers make it.

Usually see them around my feeder by now, but I haven’t seen any yet. I still had one doe a few days ago that looked like she was still carrying fawns. Bred late I suppose.

I saw a doe with 2 new fawns 2 weeks ago. The doe looked like last years fawn. This is the latest I have ever seen newborns in central NY.

Since my post above I’ve been watching one set of twins and a single fawn. I see the twins a lot and the single about every other week. This is the first time ever for me to feed all summer long and I’ve only done it here at home. I ‘m on two small leases also and didn’t feed them there. It’s been fun watching all the deer and disheartening to see all the damn hogs. IMG_0751.jpegIMG_0729.jpegIMG_0709.jpegIMG_0704.jpegIMG_0671.jpegIMG_0674.jpeg

The buck in the picture immediately above (behind the T post) is a target this year. He’s two years in a row now with that funky right beam. I intend to get him with my .41 mag Ruger Blackhawk. Speer Deep Curl 210 grain hollow points !IMG_0760.jpegIMG_4053.jpegIMG_4084.jpegIMG_4042.jpeg
