Man, there is always a story. He was the buck everybody wanted to get. We had some history with him. I figured my chances were very small to see him much less shoot him. I had gotten maybe a half dozen pics/vids of him, total. I actually had gotten a vid of him the morning I shot him. His bedding area was just to the east of my hunting spot in a fairly steep and thick creek bottom. Not knowing his routine, just a trail he used sometimes going into his bed. I waited for a S wind and a high moon around noon, this one was a New moon. Moon was high at 1148, he came through at 1143. When I saw him coming up the ridge was the first time I ever laid eyes on him. He walked by at 25yds, I shot him, back a bit. Let him sit over night and went into his bed and found him. Must have been his bedroom, bed impressions were in several places. Condensed version I know, but it is a story.
Sometimes it happens that way, my best bow buck was undeserved. I’ll have to say though that you had to be doing something right in your choice of time and place. Nevertheless, it’s a very good buck and I congratulate you !
