Mattress

This may be a shot in the dark, but do any of you have a mattress you swear by? My wife and I are in the market for a new one. I have some back problems, and the mattress we have certainly isn't helping. I have a friend that just got one called a Nectar, and another who got the Purple mattress. Just trying to see if there is a clear winner overall.

We have a Tempurpedic or however you spell it. I love it and wanted another for the cabin, but of course they discontinued the one I liked.

We've had a select comfort air mattress for 20 years that's been great. But I slept on a Serta pillowtop mattress at TownePlace Suites by Marriott in Anchorage AK and it was the best mattress I ever slept on, in a motel at that.

I've had some I swore AT, but never one I'd swear BY. Actually, we had a Tempurpedic for several years and it was ok, but it wore out before the warranty was up. Good luck with that !

We have another, can't remember the brand, that was great for several months but we have to turn it every month or so now. (Did I mention I'm a fat guy ?) :(

The Select Comfort I could never get comfortable on, tried every setting on it. Wife loved it, I hated it.

.........so I'm no help at all.

I did a lot of research on this site. We went with the Leaf and Loom. My only complaint is that it does retain your body heat somewhat.
It was worth every penny. I didn't realize that waking up feeling like you had been beat wasn't normal.

Son has back issues and they have a Bed in a Box and he loves it. My mattress looks like its been beat with a wrecking ball and way past needing replaced so I have no help for you.

We bought the Zinus mattress for my daughter, then for a guest bedroom......for the $, they are great. The one in our master is a tempurpedic of some sort and also it a good mattress, but i cost about 6X as much as the Zinus and it not 6X better.

As with anything you get what you pay for. Higher quality is the way to go with something like a mattress no matter where you get it from. Especially if you have back issues, and who doesn’t. We have a local mattress company that makes anything you Would want. I imagine there are manufacturers like this all around the Country. A double pillow top in your preferred stiffness is the most comfortable in my opinion. I’ve had mine 20 years and other than rotating it around once a year is still as good as it was new. A cheaper mattress would give you about 5 years.

62 and right hip starting to cause issues, we are in the market for a new mattress as well. Been looking at the Casper mattresses. Gonna check out Purple.

I recently went with a memory foam mattress after years of standard coil and spring mattresses. I get a much better night's sleep with it. If you go that route be sure that the top in gel or gel infused. It keeps the heat down. The only draw back I find on the memory foam mattresses is they tend to be warm as they retain your body heat. There are "cooling" sheets that help. We'll see what July brings. Never tried the Purple mattresses but have heard good things about them.

That right hip issue is that you are carrying around too much money!!
Ha! I wish that were the cause and the case! But I'll have to say...lot more discretionary funds since kids all grown and gone than there was back in the kid raising days. Empty nesting is now a beautiful thing.

Been checking out the purple mattress online. May be in my near future. Old coil n spring ain't cutting it anymore.

Well, the wife pulled the trigger on the Purple today. We had several responses to a Facebook poll she ran as well. We'll see. I'll try to give as much info as I can on here as well as a short term and long term review. They have a 100 day free trial which many reviewers claim truly is a no-strings-attached money back guarantee.

I have a Purple and am happy with it. It is a very firm mattress and has great support. It felt weird at first because I wasn’t used to that much back support. Almost felt like it was pushing me up.

If you are a side sleeper you might not like it.

Which one did you choose?

If you have a Verlo near you, check their stuff out. We ended up getting a V9 hybrid, and WOW, was it an enormous upgrade over a temporpedic (sp) that wore out after a few years. My wife really pushed for it, so I hate to admit it is the best thing I’ve ever slept on. Perfect combination between supportive and soft.

Disclaimer: I have no financial interest in verlo, but I am for sale.
