Ok on new piece of farm we have a. If poweline.

1. Need a screen it's steep and just a poachers dream. I found some spent 223 rounds. Ughh.

Can I plant aborviety(sp)? They seem to grow fast, screen well, any negatives?

2. What have y'all found is the typical dept you can/can't dig/plant on a pipeline?

I am gong to cal 811 or whatever it is before I dig/till.

Thanks in advance

We planted Norway spruce on our power line. They would be better coverage for less money than arbs. You have to keep them topped under ten feet high on this right of way. Getting in touch with someone from the utility is next to impossible.

Sorry I can't called it a poweline but it's actually a gas line right away.

Still I will look into Norway. Need to know how deep I can dig. I'm sure it's fairly deep before hitting a pipeline but I will call.

How wide is it and how does it lay with the hills......as in how tall do you need the screen to be.

Some places you could get by with switchgrass, others maybe michanthus, and some need TREES! One thing to consider with woody plantings is that if they decide to clear the ROW in the near future, all those nice trees will be cut and killed.

That's something I was wondering about. Do they come in and clear gas line lines like that?

I guess I have to call someone hahah.

Yes.....we had one on our lease and they came through and tore the crap out of it and beyond. In our case their easement was wider than they had trimmed already and they came through and blew another 20 ft away on each side of it.

Well I'll have to learn more as we own the ground around it so somewhere it must tell us exactly what they own and what we are allowed to do with that piece. We deff aren't leaving it own to road.

Contact the number on the gas company signs. Tell them you're gonna dig holes. They'll be in touch shortly. I'm serious, after you call DIGTESS, if you get no satisfaction, call the gas company.

My property has a gas line easement and I can't dig into the earth within 25' of the line without the company being present. I also had them come out and mark the actual line.

I planted Miscanthus on the line this year and it's taking off and I can't wait for next year.

My company only maintains it when they have the funds which is "every 10 or so years" as they claim.
