Triple C

Well-Known Member
One of the few magazines I read cover to cover. Joined the American Tree Farm System when I purchased my property in 2011. Never tire of this publication. Good Lord willing...when I retire and try my hand at AC 2.0, it will lead to much more involvement in landowner/forest/timber education and conferences. Whether you manage your property for timber, recreation or both, you'd enjoy this publication.

I'm going to look that up Triple C. The only magazine I've subscribed to for most of my life is Fur-Fish-Game, since 1980 and read my grandpaw's years before that.
Now that you've reminded me those were wonderful times too. Every Saturday I'd stay over at his house and he'd tell stories from long ago. No cell phone or TV distractions unless a hog game was on lol!

As a matter of fact, to further demonstrate my sentimentalist nature, here's one of his I've saved from 1979.

Wow! That's pretty special right there MH. I wish I'd kept more of the mags I subscribed to back many years ago. The old Outdoor Life and Field and Stream magazines was pretty special back in the day along with old D&DH magazines. Back in the early 80s when the boys were just young 'uns, Field & Stream and Outdoor Life ran a couple of articles about Grizzly attacks that she read to the boys on numerous occasions. She had the foresight to save those. They are now displayed in shadow boxes on our cabin wall and bring back fond memories. Most of the mags today are 2/3 advertisement and I just don't enjoy even thumbing through them anymore. The mag I posted above is a great read and not filled with ads. It only comes every other month. I'll have to check in to Fur-Fish-Game. I've actually never seen or ready a copy of that magazine.

It's still one of the better ones out there, but not as good as in the 70's and 80's imo.
The older issues have a lot more stories that, at least seemed to be, written by your basic everyday hunter, fisherman, trapper.

I like browsing through Gamekeepers magazine. I still get field and stream, outdoor life and deer and deer hunting.... don’t know why because content is non existent but at least I know what new products are out there.

I don't get any of them. My last was QW, and well.....not any more. I realized that many of these publications didn't represent my situation and for the most part was an advertising assault. Most of them, you can't find 2 consecutive pages without there being some sort of advertising on it OR the actual story/article your reading they are pimping a product themselves.

[ The best hunting magazine by far is the "Hunter's Journal", Reprinted hunting stories from the early 1900's and almost no advertising. Hair raising bear stories galore, the August issue had a dozen hunting stories.

Who remembers stories by Russell Annabell, Ted Trueblood, Jack O'Conner, Elmer Keith, Skeeter Skelton, and many others who I can't remember ? I used to read all of the "big three" when I was younger. I still get Guns&Ammo, Shooting Times, and Bowhunter, but as J-bird said, most of them are ads.

Their stories are all reprinted in the Hunters Journal magazine WP_20180828_18_47_02_Pro.jpg wp_20180828_18_47_42_pro.jpg

We just moved into a new house and the wife was asking what was in all these binders. Petersen's Hunting mag since about 2004. She thought that was ridiculous and then I told her I had back to 1993 at my Mom's house stashed in a closet. Like all magazines it is not what it used to be but I spent many hours reading about Boddington in Africa and John Wootters chasing whitetails. Hell the whole reason I bought a 308 win in 1994 was because that is what Wootters shot! The internet kids will never know what they missed.

I also had plenty of stacks of Fur Fish and Game, Outdoor Life, Sports Afield, and QW before it turned into an advertisement.

Anybody else fondly recall Harry and Charlie in the back of Bassmaster Magazine? This yankee kid used to wonder just exactly how good a MoonPie was.
