Fall mix via-Green Cover Seed SmartMix Calculator

I know some of you have used this in the past. What am I looking for at the bottom of the page?

I entered the following priorities (results):
1-supplemental grazing (100%)
2-deer habit (90%)
3-grazing with regrowth (70%)

My C-N ratio is 26.09 which is on the "soft" side of the scale. I did a quick search, looks like a C-N ratio of ~24 is desirable.

My full rate is 126 (goal says 125)

Should I alter the mix based on those results? I left them a message today, hopefully I'll hear from them tomorrow.

Below are the species I entered and LBS per acre that the calculator recommended:

MRC 1.7
CC 2.63
Frosty Berseem 1.17
Balansa Fixation 1.46
Aus winter peas 7.31
Hairy Vetch (AU) 2.93

WW 11.7
WR 9.51
Oats 14.6

PTT .88
Radish 1.17
Rape .88

Sunflower 1.17
BW 4.39

Any glaring issues with the mix in general? Recommendations appreciated. I'll be broadcasting in September with rain in the forcast. 2 quarts/acre GLY and either mowing or cultipacking or mowing and cultipacking.

I would change your first priority to “nutrient cycling, weed suppression, or provide lasting residue”, or something along those lines. Unless there are cattle in there, then roll with it.

I ended up messing with their calculator a little more and input all of those except lasting residue. The mix above was 70% or more in each category.

I do wonder how many of these species are waisted space if I terminate the crop in ~mid May in favor of a summer mix. I know some of those clovers are late to mature.

I'm pretty sure they will actually mix that variety of seed into one bag.
Spreading seeds of different sizes can be a little inconsistent.
I did Smartmix a couple months ago and when I saw the pre order invoice, I realized that they were gonna mix it all together. They call to finalize orders...I had them put it in separate bags. Saved a little on mixing charges, too.

I’ll likely just order the small hard to find seeds from them. I can’t justify the tremendous jump in shipping charges for cereal grains I can easily pick up in NC.

I've watched MOST of their videos on YouTube. I'd recommend upping your fill rate if you expect heavy browse pressure. I think they mentioned around 150 or 160. Also I believe that's assuming 100% germination, so factor in your germination rate. (somewhere between 80%-90%) That's what I just did. Used up most of the seed we had leftover, and bought the small stuff from them.
