I'm just not sure on this one. If the fruit is really green when ripe, then my guess below will not be right.
I'm thinking it is one of the deciduous Ilex (holly) species. The main ones are: Ilex mucronata and ilex montana, but there are more that are all very similar. People call them by all kinds of different names such as catberry, false holly, big-leaved holly, mountain holly, winterberry holly, possum holly and the list goes on and on. Even the experts use different names.
Some of them would occur in east central Ohio. The berries of any of these would eventually change color. Other than that, I feel pretty good about my guess.
