Deer tracks in a hole?

This is the only picture I took today so it doesn't say much, but why would there be deer tracks in this little hole I dug? It's about 3ft deep and there's a brush pile right on the other side of the hole so they wouldn't be going across it.

Same as said above. Deer are very curious creatures. They check out any disturbance that happens in their home. I'm building a shop right now... put out and leveled 80 tons of screenings in the front yard. It was covered in deer tracks the next morning. Same with chainsaw work, dirtwork, and even spraying; deer come check it out.

I guess that would make sense, investigating any changes to their environment. I can only imagine what they think of the things we do...
