Crossbow Question

In a attempt to kill some stubborn horseweed in a few existing plots, last weekend I sprayed them with a little dose of crossbow. Wanted to use 24D, but we were out and that was all we had. My question is, how long of a residual is it going to leave? Did I shoot myself in the foot if I’m going to plant some grains in a few weeks? I was planning on working them all up and planting oats or wheat more than likely. I know 24D has a short residual time, but not sure or very familiar with crossbow. Thanks in advance

Crossbow is a mix of 2,4d and triclopyr. I just did a search for residual and wait times for reseeding and came up with everything from 3 weeks to a yr. Don't have a label though so take it with a grain of salt.

Thanks Cat, I saw a lot of different things as well. Hopefully someone has some first hand knowledge on it, if not I’ll let y’all know in a few weeks!

I don't believe it's labeled for ag use, just pasture. Might be why finding internet info on reseeding/interseeding is sparse. Going off memory so once again take with a grain.

What's another name for horseweed? Do you have a pic of it by chance? I'm wondering which one that is.

A good way to fight horseweed is to let it get very tall and then mow it a few weeks before the seed becomes viable. It won't be able to rebound, and you have eliminated the seeding. Since it is an annual, it relies on seeding to come back each year. If you mow it too early, it will adapt to the mowing and still put out some seed on a short stalk.

Good deal. Up here we have horsetail and marestail. Totally different In approaches. I don’t have MT, but I have HT out the wazoo. HT also has about 6 different names.

Yes, a lot of people get horsetail (Equisetum arvense) and marestail (Conyza canadensis) confused. As you said - two totally different plants.

Around here many farmers call giant ragweed horsetail. Though it is easy to manage so I assume that isn’t the plant in question. I asked my dad why they call it that and he said every pasture you put horses in ends up covered in it.

For future reference, planted the fields 3 weeks after spraying and everything was fine. Plots look good, just hope we can continue to get a little rain!
