Calling Native Hunter !

My son recently bought a small place and house. It was last winter so trees could only be guessed at by looking at the shapes and the bark, at least by me ! One by one fruit began to set, and we discovered a peach tree, some type of plum, a fig tree, and another that was slow in setting any kind of fruit. Well, my son works at night and a couple days ago got home about 9:00 am and noticed this tree had finally set fruit. So my question is: Native, can you guess what kind of apple this is from this picture ?

LOL, I can’t, but when it ripens we might be able to tell. The time it ripens, the looks and the taste can all be indicators of the cultivar. What I can tell you is that it looks very clean and disease free, which is great.

But, since I like guessing, I’m going to say it is a Kincaid, which is one of the few cultivars that originated in Texas. Stark Brothers later renamed it Summer Champion and sold it under that name for a while. That is a wild guess based on nothing but a hunch.
