Short term pain for long term gain..... You been around the plotting and habitat thing enough to know how that works..... Some of the best habitat projects I ever did I was very apprehensive about in the beginning.....and now look back and wish I had done more, sooner. Take lots of pics....before, during and after the process.....you will be glad you did.

Last year daytime sightings went down, so we tried to decrease pressure starting 1 month before season started. But being only 2 years of management here, we still have lots of projects and big changes to make. For example, 10 acres we bought last year have not been explored yet. Our season runs until january 1st, but last year after december hunts I would work in a couple hours of work. Mostly running a chainsaw. Probably hurt my chances then, but now that work is paying off. Thanks for the affirmation guys.

They couldn't do it. They used to do fire lanes and burns for free. Now they charge and can only put in lanes if it is safe to do a burn in the near future. There is way to much fuel for them to burn so it was a no go.

Ahhh... that’s frustrating. Have you considered a private consultant to burn it? Possibly they (NCFS)don’t want to deal with a small property?

He said he would like to burn it when it comes time, especially this time of year, but fuel level on the ground was too high and no private consultant would burn it without a mechanical thinning first. We hope to find a contractor that will bulldozer the property line that is not too expensive. Teacher salary and 3 kids!!!

I'm not sure where you live, but it shouldn't be that expensive to get brush cleared. The cost starts adding up when they have to move the dirt. I have a 2.5 acre field cleared out and it cost like a grand. Just over half of it was loaded with sycamore trees, the rest was brush and just stuff that had over grown.

I didn't do any sort of tests or anything. I took Buckwheat and just spread it throughout the whole place with a hand held crank spreader. The stuff came in awesome, and I was attracting deer from all over the place. I was amazed at how much of it they were eating down.
