Mid-August Update...(cont from previous page)

I continue to appreciate these 10 year old Sawtooth oaks. They are beautiful trees and add so much to the property.

And they are quite productive.

My main goal for clear cutting 8-10 acres last year was to create a “nasty mess”. I think it is getting there, and will hopefully provide thick cover for animals of all sort. Two summers…2015 on the left, 2016 on right

And for my Native Hunter / dogghr “appreciate the scenery moment” Not sure what weed/flower/bloom attracted these butterflies, but it was worth a stop!

Watch Where you are not going!!

Very simple task....with the tractor I was getting a few Front End Loader Buckets of fill dirt. I loaded up the bucket, backed up to work my way out of the woods, and BOOM a big limb comes crashing down on the tractor and me. Turns out the box blade crashed into a couple of dead pine trees, they popped and headed toward the tractor.

One tree broke into pieces over the roll bar and into the tractor dash board, just over my left shoulder. I should have noticed that the hours on the tractor are 1313

Yall be careful out there, ya hear!

Great update lakngulf! I may have to buy a chisel plow or as they call it here in okie land a "cultivator" for my really tough rocky plots on our 80...

On your side by side comparison of throw n mow and traditional tillage. I did the exact same experiment last year and it wasn't even close. Tilled ground reigned supreme and filled in completely with little seed. My throw n mow I had to overseed 3 times and it was still spotty at best but it is not to be helped in that area because too much rock to till

Fawns are pretty small but you guys have a late rut so it is to be expected I guess...

Always keep that ROP bar up on that tractor and it might not even hurt to have a roof. I know mine has saved my noggin on a bunch of occasions!

That was a close call. Glad you are still in good spirits. I agree with you - I had rather have seat time on the tractor that sitting beside some pool. Now my wife - she loves the beach.

First thing I put on my Kubota was a roof. Love the roof! That could have been bad - so glad you are ok.

Great update. Can't wait for my sawtooths to get to that level. Beautiful trees.

Wow I was really enjoying this read Lakn till I got to the tractor part. Glad you are ok. Stuff happens so fast. And indeed I did like the butterfly pics. As for the throw and mow, you have to spray. I've tried it without spraying, but performance is poor. I've got pics tonight of my brassica throw and mow I'll try to get posted. I'm sure your plot will look awesome regardless. BTW, did you get the deluge of rain that LA had? Group leaving here Sunday to go down for week help to cleanup in that area. Thanks for the update, you step up to the plate quit well.

Sawtooth pics remind me of those "weedy" years around here. Your trees are looking great. Gotta love the vigor of a sawtooth.

Beaches are nice too. Headed there now but more for seafood than sand

lak...Glad you're okay! Tractors scare me. I've had a couple of close calls in the past 5 years. Problem is you simply never see them coming. After almost tipping over last year spreading manure with my FEL, I now always wear my seatbelt when on the tractor and always with the ROP upright. Even started buckling up when driving the Ranger on the farm.

After almost tipping over last year spreading manure with my FEL, I now always wear my seatbelt when on the tractor and always with the ROP upright. Even started buckling up when driving the Ranger on the farm.

Tipping over is my biggest fear. I've come to the conclusion that my safety is more important than cutting those weeds on the bank. I always keep bar up and wear belt

Maybe they were bred by this guy.....He was taken around January 25, 2016

Or bred by a spike.....she will 'stand' for the most available at that time....even more than one.

Lak- Glad you didn't get hurt! Keep the hardwood competition at bay and you will old field for years to come.

Glad the tractor incident wasn't worse. I bent the bucket level indicator rod on my tractor while trying to use it as a bulldozer to push small, felled trees out of the way. Luckily it was an easy fix.
