Just suggesting electric fence to save you shot plots.
Increases in invasive plants usually means there are way too many deer. They eat the good stuff and the MFR and such flourish. Call the DEC and request getting into the DMAP program. You must be growing something for a profit, like wild apples to make jam or beans to sell, etc. Through that you can get the legal tags to take control of what sounds like a way too high deer population.
A high deer population is wonderful in the beginning but it goes badly very quickly for your property and for the deer trying to scratch a living on it.
Maybe it would be informative to post some pictures of what your timber looks like inside past the edges.
