Bragging about my boy

I booked this hunt for my son and I early this year. Unfortunately, I got sick and spent a month in the hospital and couldn't go. The hunt took place in in northern Saskatchewan near the NWT border. We picked the location because of promised world class fishing in addition to the promise of multiple shot opportunities at P&Y bruins. After passing multiple 18"+ bears, my son shot this from a ground blind. While not a giant body wise, the biologist aged him at 14. The skull measured 18 and 7/8"

The fishing proved to be all they represented. My son caught pike and lake trout until his arms hurt, all on a fly rod

Man, hate you missed the trip Elk, but glad your son had a great time. Nice bear and fish. Those bear are a little different than most of lower 48. Tend to have more attitude and attacks in the bush more common in north country. Hope you get to make the trip, I love northern Saskatchewan. Miles of nothing.

Sending the boy with fly gear was a bit of an after thought (they'd never had anyone fly fish before). I only sent him with a floating line which was a mistake. He used 5" wool head sculpins I tie up for brown trout. He did loose 2 pike the guide thought were approaching 48".

WOW, that was an amazing trip, sorry you didn't make it! Your son certainly has bragging rights!

The boy made a double lung shot using slick tricks. The 390g arrow zipped right through out of a 60lb Bowtech Guardian. The bear went 150yds leaving very little blood (the guide explained it's not uncommon for fat to plug the hole). Funny thing is, he blew most of the blood out into the boat on the ride back to camp. For a bear that size, I actually think a good mechanical would have killed quicker. However, the outfitter specifically requested fixed heads be used as they prefer an exit wound to larger cut

Sorry you missed the trip But congrats for your son and you for raising him right. Can't beat bow kills and fly rod catches!!!
