Bears climbing for acorns

I noticed heavy tree litter under a mature NWO I was scouting for deer sign. It was obvious something larger than a squirrel was to blame. I was a little surprised to see all the bear claw marks. Seems like risky business!

I had previously thought the claw marks on another nearby white oak where only there because they were messing with the camera. Then I noticed the marks above the camera. Crazy critters.

Yep, anything.

I knew they climbed but I didn’t think they would ascend high enough in the canopy and to the edge of branches. Must have been a hungry bear.

They will climb all the way to the top of an 80 foot oak tree, way out on branches and everything. Look like a big squirrel! I’ve seen it done a couple times actually. Bears are climbing fools!

I’ve only seen one in range during the season. This year it starts on October 17th. We do seem to have more around now, maybe one or two will stay put.

I’ve seen several bear that crawl out on limbs and they break and the bear fall quite a ways and hits with a big thud. They don’t lay there or shake it off they just take off on a dead run. I don’t think you can hurt them.
