The article from NRCS that I attached show a 1 acre example where the math comes out to 100 tons per percent increase. I just diddles the number to approximate 0.2 percent for 1/2 acre. It is not just duff, it is also the roots of plants. That is one reason I like a combination of Winter Rye with some legumes in my fall mix. I then add other things like GHR or PTT in small amounts. Deer love them all. GHR provides some organic tillage in my heavy clay and is attractive early in the season. The PTT provides and end season and post-season food source.
