Allgood Acres

Thanks. It's pretty cool to learn about what was here before. I know a geologist who sent me a good bit of info on those, and y'all are in complete agreement. He sent this link about the corral: https://www.uky.edu/KGS/fossils/fossil-month-Acrocyathus.php

Also, he sent me a map of my property. It shows where I have 4 different formations on it and different types of fossils can be found in each.

I haven't asked him, but do you know why the web soil survey shows me having acidic soil, but the main formation is from the Mississippian St. Louis Limestone? I would think I would have more neutral to alkaline, but I don't know how that all works either.

It is acidic soil because it is forestland.

Sweet tooth is making me want to pass up a 5 year old buck now that he's starting to grow out that other side. Not sure what he'll do when he gets to be 6 or older. Not sure my kids or myself will want to pass him this year though. It really is a cool rack.

Looks like a mature deer in background and jap stilt grass in the fore.

My son and I argue about whether to harvest bucks like this. He says that buck will have a crippled rack next year and breed more bucks like this. I say it got damaged in the early stages of antler growth and will normal next year.

This one hasn't had an antler on that side for the last 2 years. This year, he's growing out something, but not sure if he'll always be behind on that one. I agree it's probably from being damaged. At his age, and with his history, we may decide to take him. I don't believe it's genetic on this one, and don't think it would affect future deer on the property either even if it was.

This acidic soil type is in my crop field and old pasture, or do you mean that it was forested historically?

That buck in the background needs some tine length.

And, that spot there is a mixture of all kinds of bad stuff. It was an old store site or something. I've killed tree of heaven and black locust in that 50 yard area. Still working on it.
