I’m near Athens and will have some sawtooth seedlings this fall. I usually get $1 each for bareroot. They are from trees I have been growing since 1998. Take my advice and don’t plant ANYTHING without tree tubes or cages.
My suggestion would be to wait until the leaves on the sweetgums are about the size of your thumbnail then burn the crap out of the cut. Then, hack and squirt anything that survived.
I planted milo in Kansas this past spring thinking the deer wouldn’t bother it with as much as there was around me and it’d make cover for them and food for pheasants. Wrong. Deer DESTROYED it in the dough phase.
Another decent buck from my farm in Kansas. Dec . 1. Not a monster, but one i’d been watching for three years. At least 5 years old, maybe 6. Called him “Goofy” for obvious reasons.

Those fawns don’t regularly travel with the dies until they get a couple weeks on ‘em. Just now starting to see them on camera.
That said, I’d still kill every coyote I saw!
I put this in the Native Habitat thread because this is in some native grassland I’ve been working on. While I was on the tractor my heeler and lab made a new friend. Before I walked over to make this, they were all laying in the grass watching me on the tractor.
