Almost to the point of giving up…

Well had to try but you’re right. Gotta know when to say uncle and call it. Just took me 15 years to get to that point. lol Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Almost to the point of giving up…

I’ll still have my home orchard and will try to keep that going as best I can and will try to supply nuts to folks but unfortunately they just don’t do well here. They aren’t native here and there’s a good reason why I suppose. I do have some good chestnut trees here at the house if I can manage...

Almost to the point of giving up…

Never thought I’d say this but after 15+ years of trying to get various varieties of Chinese Chestnuts, hybrids, Americans and everything in between to grow here in NE TX I’m about ready to throw in the towel. I can amend the soil, no problem. I grow them in special pots for 2-3 years, no...

    Walmart Dunstan Trees - Expectations

Easy access to buying them, their size, their age. One of the two I purchased on clearance last year is loaded with burrs this year. I’ll probably end up picking them off due to its size. Both of them are producing catkins. For a wildlife tree they are hard to beat @ $15 a pop.

Does this young oak look okay?

That’ll do it. My orchard was hit from aerial 24D overspray several years ago. They “thought” the conditions were good but they weren’t and all my Chestnuts did the same as yours. They did recover but it took them a year. It also depends on how much exposure they had. Chestnuts seem very...

    Chestnut Production?

Makes you wonder how these things even make it in that wild if they are that picky, huh? lol Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Chestnut Production?

This isn’t normal. Looks like the soil is very moist but it’s hard to tell with the pic zoomed in so much. You may be suffering from a form of damping off. Matt Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Does this young oak look okay?

Doesn’t take much. Especially on young tender growth. Look up dicamba drift. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Does this young oak look okay?

Looks like it’s caught some overspray. Has someone been spraying herbicide nearby? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Walmart Dunstan Trees - Expectations

Yes! Unless you can get these on clearance don’t buy into the hype. Dunstan is just a chestnut with mostly Chinese genetics. Nothing special. I will say that the Walmart trees do give you about a three year head start if you can find them for the right price. One of mine if blooming this year...

    Walmart Dunstan Trees - Expectations

Yes! Those were the good old days. I’ve lost count at the number of discount Walmart trees I’ve planted over the years. Most end up surviving too. Matt Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    American Chestnut

Can’t remember if someone on here sent me some American chestnut nuts or not? I didn’t do a very good job of who sent me the seed. In any event I ended up with four viable nuts and here they are. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
