Yes! Unless you can get these on clearance don’t buy into the hype. Dunstan is just a chestnut with mostly Chinese genetics. Nothing special.
I will say that the Walmart trees do give you about a three year head start if you can find them for the right price. One of mine if blooming this year...
Yes! Those were the good old days. I’ve lost count at the number of discount Walmart trees I’ve planted over the years. Most end up surviving too.

Can’t remember if someone on here sent me some American chestnut nuts or not? I didn’t do a very good job of who sent me the seed. In any event I ended up with four viable nuts and here they are.

I’ve had issues with delayed grafting failure. They look great, even for a few years, then all of a sudden it’ll just die. The one that I’ve had take so far has been a Buck IV on Chinese. It’s only a few years old now so who knows if it’ll survive long term. I’m not gonna give up though and keep...
Trying my hand at grafting again. This time with correct rootstock and graft stock to hopefully lessen incompatibility issues later on. Here’s a Black Satin graft on mollissima root stock.

Have any of you guys been fertilizing your bigger trees? I usually spread some 10-10-10 or 13-13-13, if I can find it @ 1lb. per 1” of trunk diameter btw. In case anyone was wondering.
Anyway the last couple of years, my daughter has been showing rabbits in Spring for her FFA project in school...
I grow outside. I don’t know about yall but I was looking at the forecast for next week but not much is going to germinate with highs in the mid 60s. I think there are a couple of days where the temps are in the 70s.

Depends on how hot it is. Low 90s every other day. Mid 90s and above every day. Just have to go out and check them. Those RM18s dry out fast in extreme heat. Also depends on your soil. Best thing to do is get them out of the root pruning containers as soon as possible before it gets too hot and...
I used I plastic container from the dollar store that was slightly bigger than the tray and would set tray and all over into it. Fill with water up about 1/4 way on the pots and let it soak in from the bottom via capillary action. This works great for a few trays.

I still hunt with the deer rifle I bought from my Uncle when I was 13 for $50. A 1976 Remington 308 bolt action. Only gun I’ve ever needed. I’m now 46.
