    The Playground

I received the same letter from the CWD positive they found in Mercer county several years ago. I'm of the opinion that I'd deny them access. You should get some extra free tags to do the work yourself if you so choose. This targeted culling hasn't stopped the spread IMO. I get 10 tags...

    Chestnut Production?

I like to feel how heavy the tray is to determine if they need watered. Heavily water one tray and lift, then fill another tray up with bone dry soil medium and lift to see the difference. Until the seedlings have a good amount of top growth, they shouldn't need watered every day. Once the...

    Chestnut Production?

Those are fine as is for growth in the trays. For the wire protection, it'll need to be up off the chestnuts and secured so nothing can reach in and grab them. Squirrels will have a field day with them if the wire cage isn't large enough to keep their grubby little arms out.

    Ozark Chinquapin

That's an oft overlooked issue IMO. Young seedlings can handle a lot more drought stress if the hot afternoon sun isn't as much of a factor.

Missouri Dept of Conservation ''Targeted Kills'' in CWD ''Hot Zones''

I can't see how the strategy in MO is producing any results. They're still finding it yearly in new counties. I've always wondered if it wasn't some sort of result from being deficient in some nutrient. Sure do like getting the extra 10 CWD tags a year to use at my discretion at my farm...

    Missouri All Day Turkey Hunting

The weather seems to be the biggest factor from a yearly perspective. The amount of turkeys I've seen this fall is 10x what has been around the previous few years. The seasons, predators and harvests haven't changed to produce the results of this year. The only logical reason is the spring...
