    Iron pellets

A lot of soils have plenty of iron, just pH that makes it take an unavailable form. Most chlorosis issues in pin oaks are related to pH being alkaline. Check soil before adding iron. You may get better results from adding a soil acidifier, which would help with other pH realted issues too.

    .22lr Rifles

I bought a CZ457 Varmint in the last year. It's a tack driver. The various models generally differ with variations in the barrel (length, standard vs heavy, threaded, iron sights) and stock. I preferred the 16" heavy barrel, threaded for suppressor. I had an extra Vortex 3-12x scope laying...

    Nitro Radish vs Tillage Radish

Many of the seeds are "brands" not cultivars. Groundhog Radish, specifically. They may be improved genetics, but they do not have a specific seed that goes in the bag. It varies by what is available when they fill the bags. I just buy generic daikon radish unless the cost is all the same.

    3 Apple Trees

I've always been told that the CAR spores travel quite far on the wind, so exposure in MO is inevitable. A quick Google search says spores can easily cause infection within several hundred yards, commonly cause infection within a mile, and have a max distance of 4-5 miles. When I bought my...

Converting Cold season grass to clover

Sorry, missed your post. Cost was the main factor. Gly is so cheap, and NWTF used to have bags of beans for $8. Throw on a bag of rye in September, and you've got beans, greens, and a nice mulch to seed into in the spring.

Converting Cold season grass to clover

Agree that the seed bank will cause problems with the cool season grass (CSG) coming back, which will pretty much require starting over in a few years. I've been down this path myself after I got my current place back in 2008 and was a newb with plotting. My experience: first year, spray Gly...

    Scent Control

I have a ozone generator that goes in a XL plastic tub with my clothes. Big believer. The ozone from that thing permeates the clothes so much I can smell it all day. Its a larger unit made to treat 2000 sf, iirc. Kick it on when the alarm goes off, and it runs while I shower, drink a cup of...

    Permissions & Chestnuts

I bought a bunch of MDC persimmons back in 2015. Most didn't make it in my smaller plots, but a row planted on an exposed hilltop lived, but didn't grow. After 5 years, I found myself with a bunch of extra tree tubes and stakes, so I cleaned up the row, identified probably 35 persimmon sticks...

    Osage orange

I guess my comment was based on advice given by a fireplace installer. His opinion was that the amount of heat generated by the hedge was dangerous, in terms of being more than a fireplace was designed for. I have no knowledge myself of the fireplace ratings/BTU potential of hedge, but have...

    Osage orange

Osage orange wood is very hard, and makes great fence posts. It is very slow to rot. I know guys that cut posts, sell locally and make good money. The thorns are painful if you get into them. If you cut trees and make brush piles, they will be there longer than you will. And don't cut to...

    3 Apple Trees

I'm in west central MO and liberty is earlier to drop here. Late September to early/mid October. It's finishing up now. Great apple for our area, but not a November drop. Remember AR Black is a triploid hybrid, and needs 2 pollinators with the appropriate bloom season to produce. I planted...

    Chestnut polination

I agree. I frequently get catkins on potted trees in their 2nd yr, and even occasionally get fertile burs on 3 yr old potted trees (10 gal).

    Looking for Chestnut Trees

I use 0.5 gph drip emitters on the 1 gal, run for 25 min daily in the mid afternoon during summer, which is the most critical part of the year. If we get to a really hot, windy, dry spell, I might add a quick 5 min watering at sunrise to make sure they don't dry too much before the main...

    Looking for Chestnut Trees

I started growing chestnuts from seed back in the '14/'15/'16 timeframe (don't recall exactly...) based on the wealth of knowledge that used to be on the QDMA forum. I haven't participated here as much, but do recognize some familiar names, and appreciate the high quality info shared, like the...

    Callery Pear Grafting

I've been putting bamboo on potted grafts, like persimmon. In the field, I've used tree tubes, seemed easier. Anyone think of a downfall to this?
