sorry forgot to include that.. in a clover chicory plot...and pure clover plots
128 oz per gallon, 4 oz per acre= 32 acres@ $197 (plus shipping if you don't get by the store) comes to $6.16 per acre.Thunder is supposed to work and it get a lot of stuff including fleabane and is safe in clover. But pricey, $319 / gallon and good for 20 acres, so about $16 an acre. Sledgehammer is about $80/acre and only gets nutsedge. I'm looking for 3 locals to share a gallon of Thunder.
I've written extensively about Thunder elsewhere on this site, however, I'll recap some for you. Thunder herbicide can be used for legumes throughout the growing season, but I've had my best successes in early to midsummer. I don't usually spray much past labor day in the fall with any type of herbicide, and although I sprayed in the dry season in late July this year with OK results, spraying in a drought when weeds are dormant won't work. My best results are from spraying early May to midJune. What I classify as great results is when there's nothing left but chicory and clover. The label calls for 3-6 oz per acre, I usually do 4 oz per acre (6 oz. max. per yr) Also use 16 oz surfactant per 25 gallons of water, and also add 64 oz of ammonium sulfate (AMS) per 25 gallons of water to the tank mix. Either spray when the weeds are 3"-6" high, or mow the field and spray right after mowing. No need to hit the weed leaves with Thunder, it goes into the soil and kills them as they try to grow after mowing. Spraying tall clover and weeds works, but much slower, and might not have a clean kill. Carryover; wait 4 months to plant small grain, 8 months to plant corn, 18 months for brassica, 24 months for potatoes. I'd only use this stuff on permanent clover plots. That is a great price, Keystone has it a +$300. Now...... how does it work???? How and when did you apply? Have you used it enough to know if it kills Yellow nut grass or just sets it back? Guy I talked to at Keystone said you might have to apply a second time. Please let us know you findings.
